Tuta

Tuta (formerly Tutanota) is an end-to-end encrypted email and calendar service based in Hanover, Germany. Founded in 2011 by Arne Mohle and Matthias Pfau, the service was one of the first to offer fully encrypted email communication, including subject lines, which most encrypted email providers leave unencrypted. The company rebranded from Tutanota to Tuta in 2024.

Tuta provides encrypted email, contacts, and calendars with a strong focus on privacy and simplicity. The service uses its own encryption protocols rather than PGP, enabling features like encrypted subject lines and a seamless experience for both sender and recipient. Non-Tuta recipients can access encrypted messages through a password-protected link. The platform is available as a web app and through native desktop and mobile applications.
