Overview
Baserow is an open source no-code database platform founded in 2020 by Bram Wiepjes in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Often described as an open source alternative to Airtable, Baserow allows users to create and manage relational databases through an intuitive spreadsheet-like interface without writing any code. The platform is built with Django (Python) on the backend and Vue.js on the frontend.
Baserow provides a rich set of field types including text, numbers, dates, file attachments, links between tables, formulas, lookups, and rollups. It supports multiple views (grid, form, gallery, Kanban, calendar), filters, sorts, and groupings. The platform includes a REST API and real-time collaboration features. An application builder feature allows users to create custom front-end applications on top of their Baserow databases, enabling full no-code application development.
As a Dutch company committed to open source principles, Baserow offers both a managed cloud service hosted on European infrastructure and a self-hosted option through its permissive MIT-licensed codebase. The project has attracted a growing developer community and is used by organizations ranging from small teams managing internal workflows to larger companies building data-driven applications. For European businesses seeking data sovereignty with the convenience of a modern no-code database tool, Baserow provides a compelling alternative to US-based platforms.
