Activepieces
Open source no-code business automation platform
Overview
Activepieces is an open source automation platform founded in 2023 by Mohammad Abu Aboud (ex-Google) and Ashraf Samhouri, a three-time founder. The project was born out of frustration with the limitations and pricing of existing automation tools like Zapier, and was accepted into Y Combinator's Summer 2022 batch. Activepieces is headquartered in Paris and has quickly built a community of over 100,000 users who use the platform to automate business workflows without writing code, while maintaining full control over their data through self-hosting.
The platform features a visual flow builder where users create automations by connecting triggers and actions from a library of over 100 integrations, including popular services like Google Sheets, OpenAI, Discord, Slack, and many more. For developers who need custom logic, Activepieces supports Code Pieces written in TypeScript, along with webhooks, scheduling, branch logic, and loop controls. The platform takes an AI-first approach with native AI actions built in, and its open ecosystem means that 60 percent of available integrations have been contributed by the community. The entire codebase is MIT-licensed on GitHub, giving organizations the freedom to self-host, customize, and audit the software.
As a French company operating under EU jurisdiction, Activepieces is fully GDPR-compliant and offers EU-based cloud hosting for its managed service. The self-hosting option provides complete data sovereignty for organizations with strict privacy requirements, as all automation data stays on infrastructure the organization controls. Activepieces represents a European open source alternative to US-based automation platforms, combining the flexibility of self-hosting with the ease of a polished no-code interface.
